Summer Intern Engineer

Company Description: 

Shared Spectrum Company (SSC) is a pioneer in the development of innovative wireless signal spectrum sharing concepts.  SSC is developing spectrum sharing technologies, system applications and prototypes.  The technology enables frequency agile radios that dynamically share the spectrum on a non-interference basis with existing users. SSC develops innovative algorithms and hardware as enabling technologies for prototyping, testing, and demonstrating novel spectrum sharing.

 

Position Description:

SSC provides opportunities for emerging engineers to work alongside seasoned professionals and gain valuable experience while contributing to project success. Engineering interns contribute to embedded software development, system design and modeling, algorithm development, simulation and analysis, or lab/field testing. Potential tasks include developing and testing wireless system software, analyzing field test data using MATLAB, developing control programs (MATLAB or C++) for field test support equipment (wireless backhaul, GPS, telemetry systems, 5G, etc),  and participating in field testing at locations in the Northern Virginia area.

 

Qualifications:

Software Engineer Intern

  • Strong understanding of object oriented programming and good coding practices
  • Programming Languages: C++, Python (Windows or Linux)
  • Experience with embedded software development

Hardware Engineer Intern

  • Strong understanding of FPGA programming and coding practices
  • Languages: VHDL, Verilog
  • Experience with RFSoC, and an understanding of the design flow and toolchain

Wireless Systems Engineer Intern

  • Programming Languages: MATLAB, Python
  • Strong understanding of key wireless system concepts and algorithms in the following areas: signal processing, signal propagation, digital communications systems engineering principles, communications networking, wireless applications such as communications, sensing, and radar
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators
  • Experience with experimentation and statistical data analysis

All Intern Positions

  • Self-motivated (“can-do”) individual that can work independently in a group environment
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Pursuing BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Rising juniors and seniors preferred
  • US Citizen or Permanent Residency required

 

Job Details:

  • Paid full-time positions, Monday through Friday
  • Tyson’s Corner office location with free parking and short walk to Metro
