Shared Spectrum Company awarded tasking under U.S. Army contract to develop policy software for spectrum planning
Vienna, VA, June 24, 2009 – Shared Spectrum Company (SSC) has been awarded a tasking under Booz Allen Hamilton prime contract W15P7T-06-D-E401/0016 from the U.S. Army CERDEC Space & Terrestrial Communications Directorate (S&TCD) to participate in the development of spectrum planning tools to build and distribute tactical radio policy controls. The CERDEC S&TCD office will transition the spectrum planning tools to the warfigher.
This project focuses on creating spectrum policy authoring and distribution tools that enable Army spectrum managers to build spectrum polices that work across a number of radio platforms. The policies allow tactical radios to make better use of available frequencies based on the spectrum environment, host nation regulations and operating features of the radio. SSC has developed, manufactured and field tested policy-based cognitive radio hardware and software for military applications under the neXt Generation Communications (XG) program funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
“We are honored that the US Army CERDEC has selected SSC to develop and transition policy-based spectrum tools to the Army,” said Dr. Mark A. McHenry, founder and CEO of SSC. “The tools will streamline the setup and deployment times for tactical radios – a critical issue during mission preparation and deployment.” A major concern in deploying new radio technology to the warfighter is reducing the complexity of administration and time to deployment. SSC’s policy-based spectrum tools automate many of the manual tasks in managing the spectrum and configuring soldier radios.
About Shared Spectrum Company
Based outside Washington, DC, SSC is the leading developer of spectrum-sensing cognitive radio technology that ensures optimum uses of radio frequencies. The Company was founded in 2000 by Dr. Mark A. McHenry to develop radio frequency technologies that would allow better use of available spectrum.
US Army CERDEC
The US Army CERDEC develops and integrates C4ISR technologies that enable the warfighter to sense battle space; deny and disrupt enemy efforts; and remain “connected” to achieve and sustain information superiority, strike with decisive lethality and survive
