Telecom Council of Silicon Valley Selects Shared Spectrum Company for its Innovation Showcase at CTIA WIRELESS® 2012

Category: News, Press Releases

Shared Spectrum Company (SSC), the leading innovator of dynamic spectrum access and cognitive radio technology software solutions, today announced it was selected by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley as one of 24 featured companies at Innovation Showcase @ CTIA WIRELESS 2012 being held May 8-10, 2012 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Chosen by a distinguished group of Telecom Council member companies, including Qualcomm, Docomo, BT, HTC, Vodafone, China Mobile and Nvidia, SSC was selected from hundreds of applications for its innovative approach to solving one of the most the critical challenges facing the wireless sector—spectrum scarcity.

“The Telecom Council is highly respected and effective in supporting the growth in the wireless sector so we are honored that SSC was selected for the Innovation Showcase at CTIA WIRELESS 2012,” said Tom Stroup, CEO of SSC. “Our innovation addresses an unresolved fact affecting wireless—the insatiable demand for wireless traffic cannot be met with only spectrum reallocation rather technology, such as spectrum sharing, that enables markets to build agreements and rapidly gain access for growth.”

SSC recently released its first commercial software product called the Spectrum Sensing Toolbox (SST), which allows for highly precise radio frequency sensing by wireless devices, such as femtocells to operate in the TV White Space (TVWS) and other spectrum bands while avoiding interference with other devices in the spectrum. Wireless devices using the SST can access more spectrum, thus the quality of service improves by accurately detecting wireless microphones, TV transmitters and other emitters that may cause interference. SST-enabled TVWS devices can operate as stand-alone, sensing-only devices in accordance with the FCC’s rules or to increase performance of database-connected systems.

SSC will be demonstrating its technology through CTIA WIRLESS in the Innovation Showcase booth 4051, and CEO Tom Stroup will be making a presentation on the CTIA World main stage May 8th at 3:45pm.

“Companies like SSC are exactly the type of company we want in the Innovation Showcase,” said Liz Kerton, president of the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. “We want to ensure that CTIA WIRELESS attendees leave the show having seen new products, tried new services, heard new ideas, and met new companies like SSC that are pushing the envelope in wireless.”
